PAUL ALFRED WESSELER May 28, 1913 ~ October 6, 2012 Paul A. Wesseler of Vancouver, WA, passed away after a short illness on Sat., Oct. 6, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. He was 99 years young and vibrant in mind and spirit. He was born in Seattle, WA to homesteading parents. Paul grew up in northwestern Washington near Lake Ozette on the 160- acre forest homestead. Paul graduated WSU in 1941 with a degree in Agriculture and married to Pauline Johnson of Bellingham, WA in 1942. He served during WW II as a 2nd Lt. U.S. Navy Radio Officer protecting the Panama Canal in 1945. After the war and graduate work at WSU, Paul was selected as County Extension Agent in Agriculture for Clark County. He served both farmers and home gardeners for more than 40 years. He founded the Master Gardeners in Clark County, developed 4-H, FFA, and Farm Forestry programs. Paul was a humble, tireless and committed volunteer who never sought recognition for himself. However, many organizations sought his advise and recognized his sacrifice, including: National Council of 4-H Leaders, Washington State University, Clark County Commissioners, Clark County Urban Forestry, Clark College, Master Gardeners, United States Dept. of Agriculture, Free Mason's Hiram award, Clark County Fair 50-years service award, Clark County Farm Forestry and Hazel Dell Grange. Paul is survived by his children, Paul Richard Wesseler, Carole Lamb, Barbara Griffin and Linda Beagle; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Pauline. Graveside memorial services will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Arlington West on Sun., Oct. 14, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Open House Ministries or Peace Health Hospice.
