John Bernard Rasmussen August 25, 1923 – May 20, 2012 Resident of Vancouver, WA, born in Oak Park, IL, and grew up in Oconto, WI. Sherman Hedrick, father, Noreen O'Connor, mother. Served during WWII as an air crewman on a dive bomber with Carrier Air Wing 11 in the South Pacific. Married Joanne Sanders of Seattle, WA, in 1945. Earned BA from University of Washington in 1950, MA from San Jose State University in 1964. Rasmussen was a singer and musician all his life, most recently singing for the Garden City Barbershop Chorus, San Jose, CA, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Vancouver Choir, and the Fairway Village Music Makers. He worked as an elementary school teacher in Rochester, WA; Tacoma, WA; Appleton, WI; and San Jose, CA. Survived by Joanne, his wife of 67 years, and his children: Trina Forest, John Alan Rasmussen (Ana Maria), and Walter Sanders Rasmussen (Pattie). Grandchildren: Lorraine Forest Burns (Shawn), Joleen Forest (Blake Angelos), David Neubeck (Hannah), John McKibben Rasmussen, Ana Maria Rasmussen, and Shawn James Rasmussen. Great Grandchildren: Dylan Forest, Flynn Angelos, Emerson Angelos, Jake Burns, and Sophia Archer Burns. Also survived by his sister, Marion Van Orsdell, and numerous nieces and nephews.
